People with autism and its spectrum is very diverse both in capabilities, level of intelligence, and even behavior. Some are not "speak" the language while some other confined so often found repeating words or phrases (echolalia). The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) in Aleycia Moore (2010: 45) states that in the United States mentions 5 types of behavior that should be watched and the need for further evaluation:
  • Children do not mutter until the age of 12 months
  • Children do not demonstrate the ability gestural (pointing, bye, grasping) until the age of 12 months
  • Children do not say a word until the age of 16 months
  • Children are not able to use 2 sentences spontaneously at the age of 24 months
  • Children lose the ability to speak and social interaction at a certain age
